Guest: Colonel Gail Seymour “The Candy Bomber” Halvorsen (October 10, 1920 – February 16, 2022), a highly decorated senior officer and command pilot in the United States Air Force, was interviewed by travel expert Stephanie Abrams in 2013. While his military and governmental service has gained many recognitions and awards, he is best loved and well remembered for his “candy bombing” flights after WWII in Berlin when he flew unauthorized flights over East Berlin dropping chocolate bars from his ‘appropriated’ airplane to children awaiting the “wiggle waggle” of Col. Halvorsen’s aircraft signalling that treats were about to fall from the sky for them to catch! In honor of the celebration of the 20th year on radio of Travel WITH Stephanie Abrams and in memory of the passing of Col. Halvorsen at the age of 101 this year, the interview with Co. Halvorsen, recorded at a special event in his honor created by Nils Haupt, then Director of Communications for the Americas for Lufthansa German Airlines, this interview was rebroadcast, archived and podcast.
